About statplate

Who runs it

statplate is an independent site. It is not affiliated with the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Bond Review Board, any school district or any campaign for or against a bond.

How the pages are made

The school, district and county pages are generated by code from the Texas Education Agency's published reports: one page per district and county, and one per campus that has published data. No number on them is typed by hand. The bond election pages are generated the same way from the Texas Bond Review Board's public bond election dataset; each one shows the date of the state data it was built from.

How the stories are made

Each story is written for this site from named sources. Before it publishes, every claim in it is checked against its source, and exact numbers must match exactly. The sources and caveats are on the story page.

Why

The state publishes these records, but mostly as spreadsheets and PDF reports. statplate puts them on a phone screen, one school or district at a time, with the uncertainty shown.

The rules behind the numbers, from masked cells to confidence bands, are on the methods page.
